NOTATE 2 Case Studies

Colleton Primary School, Twyford
According to Alison Rolls, Year 5 and 6 teacher, Notate 2 has enabled children who have no knowledge of formal notation to begin to use this as a tool to record their own compositions. Pupils with no skill on an instrument have been able to try out musical ideas and develop their own compositions. Whilst those, who do have some knowledge, have been enabled to progress further and faster than they would have in this area.

Grazeley Parochial Primary School, Reading
Fiona Greer’s enthusiasm for ICT and Music is obvious: “Many children in the class, including some less able and others normally unenthusiastic about music, have been asking when they can use Notate again as they want to extend their compositions. I look forward to using it again with them. We all had fun!”

Radstock Primary School, Reading
Radstock Primary School chose Notate because it was more advanced than other software programs they were using. Notate 2 gave the children more choice and greater challenges, enabling them to gain further musical experience.

Raynham Primary School, Edmonton
Sheryl Henry, Year 5 and 6 Teacher, says of the software: " I have used Notate on an interactive whiteboard, which has been a great way to encourage group discussion and whole class participation. The children like to get involved as much as possible and Notate 2 enables them to do this... The ability to customise the software to tailor it to individuals or whole classes makes it easy for the children to use and accessible to all."

Westfield Middle School, Bedford
Rob Hamilton, Head of Music, has asked for more computers in his classroom so that a greater number of pupils can have access to Notate 2. He states, "It is very evident that pupils’ National Curriculum levels of attainment have increased at a faster rate than previously as a result of pupils’ using Notate".
