Bricknell Primary School, Hull - Revelation Sight & Sound Case Study

Thanks to Graeme Brook, Year 4 Teacher

Why did you choose Revelation Sight & Sound?

We wanted pupils to be able to manipulate images. They had some experience of using limited digital blue cameras and software and we wanted them to be able to edit videos they had taken. We looked at simple versions. Staff were using Adobe Premiere Pro. Revelation Sight & Sound seemed to offer upper KS2 pupils enough ‘whistles & bells’ without too much to learn.

Who is using Revelation Sight & Sound?

We are currently using Revelation Sight & Sound with Year 4 and upwards. Year 4 with support from bought in ‘expert’.

What curriculum areas and/or objectives does Revelation Sight & Sound support in your school/organisation?

Revelation Sight and Sound integrates ICT effectively into the curriculum. In the case of the largest project we used Revelation Sight & Sound to create an animation which was to encourage and develop pupil language skills within French & German.

In your opinion, does Revelation Sight & Sound support the development of learners’ higher order skills such as thinking & problem solving skills?

It is excellent for problem solving as pupils can immediately see what has been produced and amend it. In our experience pupils investigate all options and then seek help if they cannot work it out. They enjoy being about to work things out for themselves and see the end results.

What do pupils think about Revelation Sight & Sound?

The pupils thoroughly enjoy Revelation Sight & Sound. We just struggle at times to provide children with enough ICT time to use it effectively given the other curriculum demands.

How has Revelation Sight & Sound supported your teaching?

Animation produced ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ used in MFL teaching to other classes and year groups.

How would you say Revelation Sight & Sound enhances learners’ experience?

It enables pupils to create a quality project and enables ‘joined up learning’ in linking ICT to other areas of the curriculum. The pupils are able to use Revelation Sight & Sound while also gaining skills from that programme they are also gaining other skills that are extremely useful within other areas, such as problem solving.

Future Plans for using Revelation Sight & Sound

We have animation planned for next week looking at a ‘Global Journey’ linking year 4 and school work in geography, citizenship & ICT.
