What is Curriculum Online (COL)?

Curriculum Online is the next step in the government's sequence of investments in ICT for schools, building on 4 years of the ICT in Schools Programme (formerly known as the National Grid for Learning).

The DfES says "The vision of Curriculum Online is one of online access to a wide range of digital learning materials, easily accessible to teachers which they can use to support their teaching across the curriculum."

There is a portal at www.curriculumonline.gov.uk which provides a searchable database of eligible products from approved suppliers linked to the National Curriculum. (Please note this is NOT an online ordering service)

What are eLearning Credits (eLCs)?

Starting in November 2002, the government has allocated a total of over £450 million over 5 years to schools for the purpose of purchasing COL software/resources. The funding is called "'eLearning Credits" but it is, in fact, cash distributed to schools, via their Local Authorities, in addition to their existing Standards Fund money.

The amount you get each year is formula-based, to include an amount per school plus an amount per pupil. You can obtain further details from your Local Authority.

Who is entitled to eLearning Credits?

All maintained schools and nurseries, non-maintained special schools and pupil referral units in England.

When can I spend my eLearning Credits?

Now! The funding periods are as follows:-
£30m November 2002, to be spent by 31st August 2003 (closed)
£100m April 2003, to be spent by 31st August 2004 (closed)
£100m April 2004, to be spent by 31st August 2005 (closed)
£100m April 2005, to be spent by 31st August 2006
£75m April 2006, to be spent by 31st August 2007
£50m April 2007, to be spent by 31st August 2008

How can I spend my eLearning Credits?

You can spend eLCs ONLY on eligible software products from COL Registered Retailers, such as Logotron. ALL Logotron products are eligible. Eligible products are marked with the COL official logo.

All you do is place an order in your usual way (see 'How to Order' in the online catalogue) and tell us it's eLC funded. It's as simple as that!
