The control & modelling tool for the ICT and D&T curriculum
Junior Control Insight offers a unique solution to teaching control & modelling in an easily managed
format for the classroom. You need very little equipment. Instead, a large number of animated
screen-based simulations are used to make control fun and relevant. These include: Dream Bedroom,
Fun Fair, Haunted House, Inventors Workshop, and many others.
Building a system on-screen in Junior Control Insight
allows pupils to test their work before connecting to
hardware, easing classroom management and allowing
pupils to learn quickly from mistakes.
A simple control language puts the instructions into
everyday English helping pupils to think clearly and
logically.
The software includes a wide range of example projects and Fixits. Fixits are single control exercises in which the learner has to fix a partially working system. These are ideal to get users up and running quickly, whatever their initial skill level.
Pupils can view their control system in three different ways, supporting the design-test-build method of control. The Scene Window shows an animated picture of the model; the System Window shows the active components and how they are related; and the Connections Window shows how to connect the interface.
Excerpt from Junior Control Insight Case Study
Sue Dean, from Bexley Centre of ICT Excellence and Gillian Davies, ICT Co-ordinator at Bexley's Northwood Primary School.
"The speed with which pupils became competent and explorative users of Junior Control Insight was hugely encouraging. Within two hours, all kinds of colourful working control projects had been created. The sense of fun and exploration engendered by Junior Control Insight was perhaps best expressed by the cries of "How did you do that?", as pupils ran across the room stealing each other's imaginative ideas for the development of their own projects. The pupils were having so much fun, they really didn't realise they were learning!' Needless to say, pupils have their own agendas. By the end of the Junior Control Insight sessions, a vast array of Funfair mania had been spawned across the ICT suite. Interlaced with the more sober examples of laughing clowns and a sedately rolling big wheel, were some absurdly frenetic achievements, in the shape of 'manic roundabouts and ridiculously fast swing boats'. Control has never been so much fun!"

To reduce the cost of delivering control, the software
can be used on an interactive whiteboard with a single
control interface, therefore effectively sharing it with
an entire class.
Junior Control Insight works with a variety of interfaces,
including: Commotion, Deltronics, Economatics, Contact
Controller, CoCo, RCX interface and many more.

Excerpt from Software for Computer Control - Roger Frost's DATALOGGERAMA
"Logotron's Junior Control Insight is a breakthrough in software for teaching 'computer control' So far, so brilliant and if you approach this right so it will remain at last you can do control with very little equipment Much too good to dismiss: if you're prepared to learn it you can teach with it." |
