and Memory Game
Downloading the Flashcards to your hard drive
Four
sets of flashcards, each focussed on a different season, have
been created for you to use with Express Literacy. These can
be downloaded individually as .WID files (the file format
used by Express Literacy) or you can choose to download all
four together as a ZIP file. Make your choice from the list
below by clicking and then saving the file(s) to your hard
drive.

Viewing the Flashcards in Express Literacy
- To view the flashcards in Express Literacy,
you must save them to the following location:
C:/Express Literacy Resources/Express Files/Printing
files/Grids

Click on the book icon, on the start screen
of Express Literacy, to access the teacher options.
- Choose 'Create Printed Grid or Worksheet'.
- From the dialog box choose 'Open an
existing grid' and then click 'OK'.

- In the 'Grid' folder select which .WID
file you want to view. Click 'OK'.

- You will now be able to view and print
your flashcard.
Using the Flashcards in the clasroom
Below are three ideas on how
you could use the flashcard set in the classroom.
Seasons
Memory Quiz 1
- Choose a season: spring, summer, autumn
or winter.
- Print out the flashcards onto A4 paper.
Enlarge onto an A3 sheet if a photocopier is available.
- Pupils look at and discuss the twelve
images and the order in which they appear.
- Teacher then covers 1, 2 or 3 pictures
and asks the pupils to remember which picture is missing.
Seasons Memory Quiz 2
- Choose a season: spring, summer, autumn
or winter.
- Print out two copies of the flashcards
onto A4 paper.
Enlarge onto A3 sheets if a photocopier is available.
- Cut out the 24 images and place them
face-down and mixed up on the table top.
- Pupils turn over two cards at a time
to see if they have a matching pair. If they have leave
the two cards face up. If they have not, turn the two cards
face down again. Continue until all cards have been paired.

- Choose a season: spring, summer, autumn
or winter.
- Print out the flashcards onto A4 paper.
Enlarge onto an A3 sheet if a photocopier is available.
- Cut out the 12 images and place them
face-up in a regular pattern on the table top.
- Pupils look at and discuss the twelve
images and the order in which they appear.
- Teacher then swaps two pictures over
and asks the pupils to remember which pictures have changed.
