Downloading the Flashcards to your hard drive

Four sets of flashcards, each focussed on a different season, have been created for you to use with Express Literacy. These can be downloaded individually as .WID files (the file format used by Express Literacy) or you can choose to download all four together as a ZIP file. Make your choice from the list below by clicking and then saving the file(s) to your hard drive.

Using the Flashcards in the clasroom

Below are three ideas on how you could use the flashcard set in the classroom.

Seasons Memory Quiz 1

  • Choose a season: spring, summer, autumn or winter.
  • Print out the flashcards onto A4 paper.
Enlarge onto an A3 sheet if a photocopier is available.
  • Pupils look at and discuss the twelve images and the order in which they appear.
  • Teacher then covers 1, 2 or 3 pictures and asks the pupils to remember which picture is missing.

Seasons Memory Quiz 2

  • Choose a season: spring, summer, autumn or winter.
  • Print out two copies of the flashcards onto A4 paper.
Enlarge onto A3 sheets if a photocopier is available.
  • Cut out the 24 images and place them face-down and mixed up on the table top.
  • Pupils turn over two cards at a time to see if they have a matching pair. If they have leave the two cards face up. If they have not, turn the two cards face down again. Continue until all cards have been paired.

Seasons Memory Quiz 3

  • Choose a season: spring, summer, autumn or winter.
  • Print out the flashcards onto A4 paper.
Enlarge onto an A3 sheet if a photocopier is available.
  • Cut out the 12 images and place them face-up in a regular pattern on the table top.
  • Pupils look at and discuss the twelve images and the order in which they appear.
  • Teacher then swaps two pictures over and asks the pupils to remember which pictures have changed.
