Here are listed just a few of the special features of Express Literacy which can be implemented when activities are created. For more information about any of these features, click on the subject title.

Changing Word Pronunciation
The speech engines provided may sometimes have difficulty in pronouncing a word or name, especially some surnames. Here is how you teach the software to pronounce unusual words.

Changing the Voice Settings
There are a number of different voice settings to choose from in Express Literacy. The default voice is set to 'Carol-UK', but it it easy to select another option.

Using the Graphics Supplied with Express Literacy
Over 400 sample graphics have been included in Express Literacy as free resources. Here is how they can be used in an activity. This section also explains the features: 'Browse for External Graphic' and 'Link to External Graphic'.

Using and Creating (Text) Styles
Having formatted a piece of text, Express Literacy then allows you to save that style for future use in another activity. Find out how this can be done.

Express Literacy can offer varying degrees of help and feedback to pupils. The example projects that have been created for Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 pupils make use of some of these features. Find out how easy it is to add prompts and feedback to your own activities.

Graphic Matching
In Symbol mode, Express Literacy tries to match each word, that is typed, to an image in the Wordlist. This section shows you how you can ensure that a meaningful graphic is displayed for any word typed.

The default for Symbols is that they appear above a typed word. But, you also have the option to make them appear below a word.

Find out how to set the default for clozed activities to print as soon as they are completed by a pupil.

Hiding spoken introductory text
Instructions do not have to appear in the Work Window to aid children. They can also be spoken as soon as an activity opens. Follow the step-by-step here to learn how this can be done.
