On the Server

Firstly you will need to create two folders on your server, Resources and Work. To do this right click on your desktop and select the new folder. You will then need to set the permissions for these folders and share them to prepare for installation.

Share the Resources Folder.

NB: This view may differ depending on the
Server Operating System, which you are using.

To set the permissions and share each folder, right click on the folder, select properties, sharing and then security.

Make sure that the Permissions for this Express Literacy Resources Folder are set to Read Only. This preserves all prepared projects intact. When pupils log in they can work with these and save completed or partially finished project activities in their own Work folder, share the Work folder...

...also by right clicking on this folder in your C:\ drive (or the drive you selected at Step one) select properties and then Sharing.

Make sure that the permissions are set to full control for everyone.

Put your Express Literacy CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive; double click on My Computer, then your CD-ROM drive and then the set-up.exe. This will start the installation. Follow the onscreen instructions until you come to the' Installation Type' screen.

	Click on Complete to install all Program, Resources and Work folders and files to your server Then click on Next.

You will be asked where you want to install the Program files to. Choose your C:\ or a suitable local drive on your server. Then click on Next.

	You will be asked where you want to store the Express Literacy Resources. Choose the Resources folder, which you have just created in the steps above. Then click on Next.

You will be asked where you want to store the 'Work' folders. Choose the Work folder, which you have just created. Then click on Next.

On the Workstation machine

Place the CD-ROM into the drive, double click on My Computer, Double click on your CD-ROM drive and then the set-up.exe. Follow the onscreen instructions until you get to the Installation Type screen.

This time select the Workstation Installation and click on Next.

You will be asked where you want to install the essential Program Files for Express Literacy. Choose the default C:\ Then click on Next

Make sure that you can see the Resources and work folder, you may need to map a network drive to both of these locations. To do this browse to the shared folders by double clicking on network neighbourhood, or my network places and then click on tools, Map Network Drive and specify the location of the Resources and Work folders.

You will next be asked where you want to install the Express Literacy Resources.

Click on the Browse button and select the server drive where you specified the Express Literacy Resources folder during the Server Installation. Once you have done that click on Ok.

Repeat this process for the Express Literacy Work folder.

Once the installation is completed you should then be able to use Express Literacy over your network.
