Express
Literacy Templates - What they are, how to use them, &
how to create your own
There
are 29 templates supplied with Express Literacy for you to
use when building new activities. They offer a 'shortcut'
to creating a page layout with a work window and resource
windows already designed for you. Using them couldn't be simpler.
Open Express Literacy by clicking on the Start button
and selecting Express Literacy from the Program menu.
When the program loads, click on the Book icon to enter
the Teacher Control Panel. You do not need to sign in.
Click on Create New Activity.
You will see the following dialog:
Make sure the Activity
and the Create a new activity from a template buttons
are selected, as shown. Click Next.
Give your activity a name and
a folder location. Type the folder name (in this case, Test)
into the top part of the dialog, and the activity name (e.g.
Activity 1) in the bottom part. Then click on the Finish
button.
The 'Select a template'
dialog will open. Using the scroll bar you will be able
to browse through all of the 29 template options. The thumbnail
pictures give you an idea of what each screen layout will
be. The work window is denoted as a white rectangle, grids
are shown in beige, and browser resource windows appear as
green boxes.
To choose your template, click on
the corresponding thumbnail. Its name will then appear
in the caption box at the bottom of the dialog.
If you are happy with your choice,
click on the OK button.
The template you have chosen will
now open in Editor mode so that you can finish building
the activity.
NB: Each template comes with a ready-made Help
button, and a Read Me button.
There is another way of selecting
a template.
The 'Select a template' dialog
has a Browse for Template button.
Clicking on this opens a window that
lists all of the available templates. As a default,
they are saved in the Thumbnails folder.
Simply click on the template name
that you want, and then click the OK button.
The template you have chosen will
now open in Editor mode so that you can finish building
the activity.
