Longman applies its educational expertise to a new multimedia-based
curriculum and re-defines integrated learning systems
Longman is re-defining Integrated Learning Systems* by applying
its in-depth knowledge of the National Curriculum and educational
publishing to Tomorrows Promise - its highly-flexible new multimedia
lesson scheme, designed to develop the core numeracy and literacy
skills outlined in the National Curriculum (Key Stages 1-3). Developed
to improve student learning within primary, secondary and special
needs schools, Tomorrow's Promise also incorporates a powerful pupil
assessment facility and management package - two important tools
created to lighten the administrative burden faced by Teachers.
Eye-catching graphics, animation and sound motivate students working
through the Tomorrow's Promise multimedia Maths Scheme, designed
to develop the important cognitive skills required to tackle mental
maths, algebra, data handling, problem solving, shape, space and
measures. Proficiency in reading and writing is central to the Tomorrow's
Promise Literacy Scheme, which covers key elements such as grammar,
punctuation and spelling - and represents an important resource
for schools gearing up for the National Literacy Hour to be introduced
by the Department for Education in September 98.
Teachers can lighten their administrative load by devising learning
paths for individual students using the Tomorrow's Promise Compass
Curriculum Manager, a practical tool that also records each students
progress.
A National Curriculum Assessment Test (NCAT) facility that works
in conjunction with the Compass Management System, assesses each
students level of achievement and identifies their strengths and
weaknesses. A programme of learning, designed to provide a suitable
and appropriate path for students re-visiting topics is then devised
by NCAT. In contrast, high-achievers are challenged with a more
demanding work programme.
* The term Integrated Learning System means an individually tailored
programme of study to support the National Curriculum.
Supplementary learning materials for students at Key Stage 3, are
provided by Compass Worldware, a further resource which allows
users to access and to explore the Internet. When used in conjunction
with the Compass Management System, Teachers can create a structured
path through the World Wide Web to enhance the wealth of material
provided by the Tomorrow's Promise curriculum.
Commenting on the new package Gerry Daish, Sales and Marketing
Director, Longman, said "The brilliance of the multimedia content
contained within Tomorrows Promise, together with the power and
ease of the assessment testing and the management system, has enabled
Longman to radically re-define Integrated Learning Systems."
Schools with a limited budget can purchase Tomorrow's Promise in
modules, by subject level, and by the number of users, to achieve
cost-effective, flexible implementations.
Tomorrow's
Promise comes complete with a comprehensive, award-winning installation,
implementation, training and support service.
