Project Match - Logotron scoops two prestigious European software
development grants, worth 2.4 million ECU

Along with a select group of European software partners, Logotron has won two important and substantial EC R&D funding awards for educational software development.

The first, project MATCH, will produce web enabled multimedia authoring tools for children, using the powerful Superlogo authoring language. The aim is to produce a set of open, extensible, easy to use tools for 'modelling', 'communicating ideas' and collaborative work. The MATCH project, funded through the INCO Copernicus program, has a program value of 1.1 million ECU.

The second project, the 'European Educational Interactive Site', is creating an interactive set of services, shared resources and teacher training materials. This will be of value to all schools using 'constructivist' software tools for teaching and learning. This project, funded under the EC Ten Telecom initiative, has a program value of 1.3 million ECU.

Managing Director, Julian Pixton commented, "As the largest developer and publisher of 'constructivist', content free learning software for schools in Europe, we are ideally placed to contribute to these two important programs".

He continued "I'm glad the EC has recognised the scope, size and importance of our educational software publishing achievements. It is encouraging to have been valued and acknowledged by the award of these two exciting projects".

We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with our European colleagues, both commercial and academic. We expect the results of this important work to be useful to tens of thousands of teachers and children throughout Europe and the US.'

MATCH software prototypes, which are currently being trialled in selected schools across Europe, will be available for demonstration at BETT, January 1999.

The 'European Educational Interactive Site', will be running for a group of selected trial schools during 1999, with the completed range of software, services and material available for widespread use in the year 2000.

Out of 839 educational software proposals submitted to the EC, only 27 proposals were finally selected to receive funding approval.
