  TeacherXpress for Busy Teachers

TeacherXpress.com is a gateway to a wealth of useful information and resources, of especial value to teachers. With the number of web pages more than doubling every 3 months, teachers need a fast way of finding interesting new information and educational resources. TeacherXpress will quickly help you find things you just won't find anywhere else.

The TeacherXpress.com web service is a showcase for Logotron's advanced automation technology. Developed in partnership with Cambridge Minds, a world leader in the research and application of genetic programming and Fast Search and Transfer.

'This started out as my own home page - and a teacher mentioned that other teachers might benefit from access to it, so we created the concept of TeacherXpress.com' said Chief Technology Officer Julian Pixton of Logotron Ltd in Cambridge. 'I was looking for a test bed to try out some of the fantastic technology coming from Cambridge Minds, and it all came together in this project'.

'Through the work we were doing with the TTA and the TeacherLinc program, it was clear to me that many teachers would welcome a simple, free gateway to the wealth of quality material available on the internet. I'm convinced that content creation is not going to be the problem - it is awareness of what is available and busy teachers being able to find what they want'.

TeacherXpress might look like a page of links to the untrained eye, but it is much, much more than that.

Advanced software robots manage the page - one robot is responsible for checking all the links and mailing me a status report each day.

A second robot is responsible for taking new entries from our panel of educational advisors as email messages and inserting them into an appropriate category on the page.

A third robot is responsible for removing entries from the page, based upon a number of criteria.

A fourth robot is responsible for periodically re-ordering the links within categories, according to the level of use by users. More used links tend to move towards the top of each category over time.

These robots have not been programmed in the conventional sense - No human programmer can understand the code that makes these robots work - They are all the product of genetic programming. Genetic programming is an advanced, automated method for creating working software objects from a high-level logic statement of a problem.

As far as we are aware, TeacherXpress is the most advanced working example of this form of software development anywhere in the world. It is also a very valuable and easy to use free web resource for teachers. Why not try it yourself?
