Logotron Leaves the City for Greener Pastures
After 24 years in Cambridge city, educational software publisher Logotron Ltd has turned its back on the urban life in favour of greener climes. With satellite offices in both Warwickshire and Northamptonshire, the company's headquarters now reside in converted farm buildings in Chittering, 5 miles north of the the city.
With their lease at Cambridge Science Park up for renewal, the Logotron directors took stock of future business needs, quality of life and costs and decided that relocating offered wins on all fronts. So April saw the company decamp to Denny Lodge Business Park, a small development of high-tech businesses on a working farm on the southern outskirts of the fens.
Gerry Daish, Marketing Director, gazed out of his new office window on to endless fields which are home to a thriving population of wildlife and said: "You don't get that view on the Cambridge Science Park. This beautiful, peaceful environment is one reason why we opted for a better life in the countryside. But aesthetics are not the only consideration - it also makes good business sense."
Technical Director, Julian Pixton emphasised that a number of factors persuaded the company to leave the Science Park. "As with any major city, there were problems with congestion, access, overall environment and unrealistic rents. Individually they would not be enough to drive us away, but collectively they made life - and business - more difficult. We are delighted with our new home and our new landlord, Nick Brown, who has converted the buildings to our own specification. Instead of a tired old unit facing a building site, we now occupy what was, until recently, a forge, a grain store and a tractor shed!"
"Traffic congestion is now a thing of the past because we're driving mostly against the flow." Daish added. "The staff are happy because they get a more pleasant, creative environment in which to work, not to mention avoiding the proposed Cambridge Congestion Charge next year; and the directors are happy to have purpose-built offices and reduce our outgoings into the bargain!"
