Revelation Sight and Sound

This review by Tim Rylands first appeared in 'ICT Reviews' in September 2005 published by SCHOLASTIC LIMITED. www.scholastic.co.uk

The scope for using Revelation Sight and Sound (from £55) – in ICT lessons and, more importantly, across the curriculum – is awesome. Having worked with a number of digital video editing packages, I have been impressed by the sheer power and versatility of this package.

Unlike other programs I have worked with, Revelation Sight and Sound provides an easy drag and drop framework within which to build multimedia projects. It is highly intuitive and stacked with visual and audio resources – these can be used by pupils and can also be added to by pupils and teachers. The software works with most digital cameras, microphones and web cams (including the popular 'Digital Blue' cameras).

There are many features, and tools that include transitions, titles and an undo/redo facility. Users can have multiple media channels (for example, many sound channels, overlay channels, effects channels, voice-over channels) working at the same time. My children found the rostrum camera effect an incredibly simple way to animate still pictures and photographs – ideal for bringing any lesson to life, with a minimum of resources.
